Went in to get my bike shifting well again after maintenence 3 months previous, figured I'd be spending $30- $50. He starts checking it out and shifting gears and as I'm waiting for him to tell me the price, he says all done. Asked him what I owed him and no charge. It's awesome that he could help me out with something minor and not expect payment. Also great products.
It seems to me that the first technician unscrewed it, so that Andy could sell me a tune up.
My front break had some sort of issue that I could not diagnose, and my rear break cable was frozen, and I thought it might need to be replaced (including housing). I take it in and a technician immediately starts going at it with a screwdriver--adjusting things. I noticed he unscrewed something on the derailleur, but just figured he was trying to isolate the problem. The technician eventually hands it over to Andy (the CEO) because he can't diagnose either problem.
Great little bike shop. Service techs John & David are really great guys. They love to talk bikes to anyone that walks in. Their pricing is so good & the quality of work is top notch.I could spend all day in there. I highly recommend them.
Perhaps I am over-analyzing this--they weren't trying to swindle me--but at the very least, my experience with The Hub was unprofessional and incompetent. I won't be returning for repairs.
Bought my first bicycle since childhood from these guys, got a great deal on a previously owned bicycle and was aided diligently in getting it set up to suit my needs and wants as a cyclist. Not only do these guys know bikes, they like them and will share your interest in them.
Your local riders and mechanics. Friendly. Feels honest. I had came in time after time for constant popped tires and they ended up letting me leave with two of thier shop shirts. Good guys.
After a few minutes of looking at it, Andy calls me over and says that he will need to replace the cable and housing, but that there are a lot of other issues with my bike. "Like what?" I say. He says that for one, the gears aren't assembled--the cable is unscrewed and so I will need a tune up. I replied that I've had the bike working well for years and I shifted through all the gears before I left home, so they should be fine. Andy seems crestfallen, "I could give you a tuneup for free, I guess".
After trying to sell me new break levers for $150 a piece, he determines that the front break issue is actually the caliper. But this is only after I tell them that I don't have the money for levers.
I recommend avoiding this place for repairs.
